The Spotlight {my five}

When you are appreciated for the work you do, it feels pretty darn good! I don't do it for me however, I do it for them, the bees and other vital pollinators our world so desperately needs!

I am deeply honored that Alimond Studio chose to showcase my bees and me in one of their Loudoun100 2018 videos. LoudounNow also picked up my story via Loudoun100 too which was pretty cool too!

Everyone who knows me, knows I am very happy and comfortable behind a camera, however, being in front of a camera is a whole other ballgame for me. I was actually nervous and feeling quite self-conscious, but I knew I had an important message to share with my community and I would have been foolish to turn down an opportunity such as this simply because I was letting nerves get to me. My 25 year old pre-baby self would have had no trouble and rocked that youthful confidence I had at that time in my life!

Nervousness aside, I think I did pretty good! Video still courtesy of Alimon Studio. Click the image to visit Loudoun100

My beekeeping and my artwork go hand-in-hand! I love working with encaustic mixed media and fine art photography. I source all the wax for my artworks directly from my own hives. Being able to do this generates a conversation that goes well beyond just the finished creation. It engages my audience in a dialogue about keeping bees, products of the hive, biodiversity, and the struggles our pollinator species are dealing with currently.

Being able to do what I love and bringing it all together in a way that allows me to be proactive and have a voice in awareness issues regarding our honey bees and native pollinators is incredible. I am eternally grateful for the work Alimond Studio is doing with Loudoun100! Toria and Zachary were so much fun to work with and showed such an interest in what I was doing with my bees. Zachary even confessed that he may be willing to give beekeeping a try in the near future! Thanks guys, you were awesome!

The Loudoun100 project is such a gift to the community! If you haven't already, make sure to visit their pages, show them some love and support by following along. Loudoun100 is sharing the stories of the amazingly talented people that live right here in our backyard! Loudoun County is amazing!

"The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can.” —Neil Gaiman Video still courtesy of Alimond Studio

When an opportunity is presented to you, take it by the horns and run with it! Who you are, what you do, your voice are all powerful things- use these tools, be heard! Dream. Speak. Create. Change the world. Do things loudly and passionately!
