Hello
I am Lyndsey Warren Pool, known affectionately by some as, The Apiary Artist. I am a full-time artist and illustrator. I also enjoy beekeeping, hence the nickname. I received my BFA from the Hartford Art School and my MAT from the Maryland Institute of Art. Since 2002 I have been working as a freelance artist, illustrator, and educator.
My Story
Raised in the serene landscape of Connecticut's Farmington Valley, I cultivated my artistic abilities amid the lush New England forests that surrounded my hometown of Avon. From an early age, I carried a sketchbook everywhere, documenting the rich wildlife that animated my environment. Horses, woodland creatures, insects and plant life became my earliest muses, instilling in me a deep fascination with the natural world- an inspiration that continues to shape my artistic practice today.
Nature is the foundation of my work. I weave my experiences exploring local forests into a distinctive visual language, transforming fleeting moments of wilderness into expressive compositions. My artistic influences are rooted in the evocative landscapes of Constable and Gainsborough, the atmospheric drama of Turner, the ethereal romanticism of the Hudson River School painters, the very technical craftsmanship of early botanical artists like Maria Sibylla Merian, Pierre Joseph Redoute, and Marianne North. I am also influenced by the imaginative works of fantasy artists Brian Froud and Frank Frazetta. Of course, I have also been deeply inspired by the seascape and landscape paintings of my own mother. Drawing from these artists, I infuse my art and illustration work with both narrative depth and painterly elegance.
My commercial art and illustrations are meticulously crafted using both traditional and digital methods. I mainly use Procreate and Adobe Photoshop, where I employ custom watercolor and gouache digital brushes to achieve rich textural detail. Adobe Photoshop's new generative AI further refines my digital creations, allowing me to push the boundaries of composition and technique. Recently, I have begun experimenting with the fusion of traditional and digital mediums, exploring new ways to bridge classical craftsmanship with modern innovation.
Traditional painting and drawing remain an integral part of my creative journey with my fine art explorations. Currently, I am developing a series of nature-inspired works that will be unveiled later this year. Alongside my two-dimensional art, I am reintegrating ceramics into my artistic repertoire, rediscovering the tactile and sculptural aspects of the medium. As an experimental artist, I have always embraced a multidisciplinary approach-continuously exploring new materials and techniques while remaining deeply connected to my overarching theme: the profound beauty of the natural world.
